Municipality of more than 5,000 inhabitants, in the Gard, in the Occitanie region, La Grand-Combe takes place about sixty kilometers from Nîmes and its famous ancient arenas. It is located on the banks of the Gardon d'Alès, not far from Portes, Alès or Soustelle.
Former, the municipality of La Grand-Combe has mainly developed around the exploitation of its coal basin. After experiencing a significant boom in the 19th century, it saw its wells close one after the other in the 1970s following competition from other sources of energy such as oil or nuclear.
La Grand-Combe has preserved from this past a large number of sites to discover during a stay in the region.
