Founded in the 12th century by settlers occupied the clearing of forest La Francheville (villa franca) derives its name from the fact that its inhabitants were "liberated" by the canons of Mezieres which they depended.
Located on the southern outskirts of Charleville-Mezieres, La Francheville is a former rural district, urban qualitatively between the years 1985 / 2005, its population from 1075 (1982 census) to 1,640 inhabitants (2005).

Site of the Former National blowing Saint-Ponce: The current district of Saint-Ponce was the site of a powder (powder manufacturing civil and military) whose business has grown from 1677 to 1904. The evidence of this activity are still present on the site, now communal property (approximately 3 hectares) between Vence (1st category river fish) and its discharge channel.
A castle (built in 1708) now complete their rehabilitation by homeowners.
