Bordered by forests and valleys, this charming town cradled by the Ixeure is located north of the South Nivernais Community of Municipalities, and covers 3,600 hectares.
With its harmonious landscape, the village aspires to serenity and tranquility.
In the center of the village, its large wooded square invites you to rest under lime trees, plane trees and chestnut trees, most of which are centuries old.
This commune is the reunion in 1793 of two parishes: Cigogne and Prye ‑ sur-Ixeure, which became La Fermeté and today has nearly 700 inhabitants.
The village has preserved traces of its history.
La Fermeté experienced an intense monastic life, notably with a convent of nuns (former Benedictine priory from 1240 to 1792). Unfortunately, an arson destroyed the buildings, leaving only a few visible vestiges today at the place called "the Convent".
The Château de Cigogne is distinguished by its 15th century tower and a Renaissance staircase turret, flanked by a bretèche. Located in a place of the same name, this private castle is not open to the public. Visits possible by appointment for groups or on the occasion of cultural events. Information on +33 3 86 58 42 64.
