Located in the Hauts-de-France, in the department of Aisne, Dhuys-et-Morin-en-Brie is a new municipality created on 1 January 2016 by the grouping of La Celle-sous-Montmirail, Artonges, Fontenelle-en-Brie, and Marchais-en -Brie. It takes place about twenty kilometers from Château-Thierry, not far from Montmirail and Montdauphin.
Rich with a rather old history, the commune of Dhuys-et-Morin-en-Brie formerly belonged to the barony of Montmirail. Marchais-en-Brie was notably illustrated at the beginning of the 19th century by becoming the theater of the famous battle of Montmirail-Marchais which saw the victory of the troops of Napoleon I against those of Russia and Prussia.
Even today, Dhuys-et-Morin-en-Brie unveils a historical and architectural heritage that attracts many visitors to old stones and history. Its landscapes and its various hiking trails also enhance the charm of this city in northern France.
Listed in Historical Monuments, the church of St. Martin was built in the course of the thirteenth century. One can notably admire a group of sculpture representing Saint Martin of Tours dating from the 14th century, as well as a pulpit to preach in polychrome wood of the XVIIe century. In red bricks, the floor of the Romanesque building brings color to the whole.
As you walk through the town, you can admire a former laundrette decorated on the theme of one of the fables of La Fontaine, The lion, the wolf and the fox.
On the road from Château-Thierry to Montmirail, do not miss the commemorative column of Montmirail which celebrates the Napoleonic battle of Montmirail-Marchais. It takes place at the edge of the departments of Aisne and Marne. Built under Napoleon III and neoclassical style, it is now listed as an historic monument. 18 meters high, and surmounted by an eagle, it presents a capital of Corinthian style stone Euville.
An orientation table installed near the pond of Tremblay allows in particular to discover the plan of the battle engraved in the marble. Farms and several stelae also show traces of this battle of 1814.
Privately owned, the Villefontaine farm is a mansion with a tower on each corner. Its construction probably dates back to the 11th century.
The church Saint-Thibaud Fontenelle-en-Brie, built in the sixteenth century, also deserves a stop for its architecture typical of the region.
The choir of the Saint-Pierre d'Artonges church is included in the supplementary inventory of Historic Monuments. It reveals particular elements of the fifteenth century. Not far, we can discover a fountain fed by a source formerly known to cure sore throat and fever.
Several marked hiking trails allow to discover the natural and architectural heritage of the new town of Dhuys-et-Morin-en-Brie.
On the occasion of the national holiday, July 13 and 14, the town offers a torchlight procession, fireworks and a popular ball.
A flea market is proposed in September.
A Christmas market is proposed at the end of the year.
