Voted France's most pleasant town in 2019, L'Isle Adam in Val-d'Oise used to be a favourite destination among wealthy Parisians in search of clean air and greenery. Founded in Roman times, the town has become renowned thanks to a number of famous figures, such as the painter Fragonard and the writer Balzac, who wanted to turn it into a "little Versailles".

Set on the edge of the forest, the pleasant and charming little town of L'Isle-Adam is nowadays known not only for its green spaces, but also for its quality of life and its famous river beach. Created in 1895, the latter is the largest river beach in France. The town's charming period cabins, sandy beach and swimming pools give it the air of a seaside resort. With diving boards, waterfalls and water slides, the leisure centre is open in summer and also offers tennis, beach volleyball, ping-pong, mini-golf, children's play equipment, and boat and pedalo rides on the River Oise.

After relaxing at the beach, be sure to go to Cassan Park and admire the Chinese pavilion, built at the end of the 18th century and listed on France's inventory of Historic Monuments. You can also visit the Louis-Senlecq Museum of Art and History, or the Church of St. Martin, the final resting place of Prince Louis-François de Bourbon-Conti.

If you'd like to go hiking, horse-riding or mountain biking, head to L'Isle-Adam's beautiful forest, just outside the town!

In the month of September, the Creators' Market brings together fifty or so artists in L'Isle-Adam.
