Castle of Nozières

Monument in Jussac

The Château de Nozières is located in the town of Jussac, in the Cantal department, 12 km north of Aurillac.

This is the seat of a seigniory, to the north-east of the town, where Pierre and Guillaume de Nozières established a fortified house in 1309, which was equipped with a tower from 1349.

Over the years marriages and successions, the estate passed to the Tournemire family then, in the 16th century, to the Noailles family. The lord of the place is then, moreover, bailiff of the Mountains of Auvergne!

Finally, in the 19th century, the estate became the property of the Couderc family.

The current castle which borders the old royal road linking Aurillac to Mauriac was rebuilt in a more residential style in the 18th century. It adjoins a pond. Inside, however, architectural elements and decorations from different periods have been preserved (fireplaces, woodwork, parquet floors).

Listed in the Inventory, the property is still private and cannot be visited. Its exteriors will nicely punctuate a walk in a bucolic environment.
