Listed as an historic monument since the end of the 1980s, the castle of Joyeuse, in Ardèche, is a magnificent Renaissance-style building. Erected in the first half of the 16th century on the site of an old fort, it underwent important transformations in the 19th century.
The castle of Joyeuse today consists of a central main building with turret of stairs and two wings forming pavilions. In addition to these buildings, there are outbuildings with vaulted passage, overlapping courtyards and even stables. School for young girls in the 19th century, it was subsequently used as a shed for the municipality's firefighters.
