Commune bordering Switzerland, Jougne is located in the Doubs, in the heart of the Burgundy-Franche-Comté region. It takes place at an altitude of about 1,000 meters, at the mouth of the Jougne cluse, one of the passes that allows the crossing of the Jura between France and Switzerland.
Frequented since the Gallo-Roman era, the territory of Jougne develops around the eleventh century. The town passes indifferently over the centuries in Burgundy, Swiss or French hands. The arrival of the railway in the second half of the nineteenth century allowed the city to gain importance, developing gradually mountain tourism and winter sports.
Today, Jougne lives both from traditional agriculture and winter and summer tourism.
