Village of more than 300 inhabitants, Hohrod is located in Grand-east region, in the department of Haut-Rhin. It takes place in historic Alsace, in the heart of the Regional Natural Park of Ballons des Vosges and in the district of Colmar.
Mentioned in the first half of the 13th century, the commune of Hohrod was originally split in two, with Hohrodberg. Former member of the community of inhabitants of Munster, it takes its name from the terms Hoch and Roden, meaning Haute and Défrichement. The village was the scene of the Battle of the Linge-Schratzmaennele-Barrenkopf, which was heavily damaged by the throes of the First World War. Hohrod received the cross of war 1914-1918 in the 1920s.
Today Hohrod is especially appreciated for its landscapes and its many outdoor activities which attract a large number of visitors each year.
