Sixth largest city in terms of population of the department of Pas-de-Calais, Hénin-Beaumont is born from the merger of Hénin-Beaumont with Liétard-en-Artois in 1971. Located between Lens and Douai, the town is one the four city centers of the urban area Douai-Lens.

Once facing the coal and mining Hénin-Beaumont retains many traces of the past, especially through mining houses. One called Humanity during the French Revolution, still has many dumps surroundings.

Today Hénin-Beaumont has some beautiful buildings with typical architecture of northern France, as its beautiful church built in the 1930s dynamic and alive, this town in the Pas-de-Calais also offers many cultural and sporting events throughout the year.

Things to see and do

The St. Martin Church was built in 1930 in Greco-Byzantine style. It replaces the original building destroyed by the Germans in 1917 during the First World War. Inside, one can find such a way of the cross of the painter Henri Rapin, and a beautiful high altar in white marble. The arches that support the arches and dome are covered with mosaics. The site is classified in its entirety as an historic monument.

The City Hall Hénin-Beaumont also worth a visit with its facade sculptures.

In the old mining area of ​​Nord-Pas-de-Calais, one can still find some slag heaps, vestiges of the old economy of the town.

Events and festivities

The weekly market is held on Tuesday and Friday morning. A Christmas market takes place in the city by year's end. Many flea markets are held in the city between April and October.

The Ducasse is the carnival of the city, held every year in May and September.

For a whole weekend of June Hénin-Beaumont starts the time of the Middle Ages with medieval troubadours with knights and other dishes of the day.

Every summer, the beach HB settled on the banks of the water body Bord-des-Eaux with entertainment.

The Tiot Loupiot festival held in several cities in the region, including Hénin-Beaumont, in October. It offers events turned around the awakening of toddlers.
