Commune des Hauts-de-France, Hautmont takes place in the department of the North, about an hour drive from Lille and its museums. The city, which was once known as the city with its hundred chimneys, is a few kilometers from the Belgian border on the banks of the Sambre.
Known in the 7th century, the town of Hautmont develops around its abbey, and takes its name from a small oratory dedicated to Saint Waast and erected at the place called Mont-Aigu. The town knows its golden age between the sixteenth and seventeenth century, developing its industry, as well as the art of brewing.
Thanks to an ambitious renovation project, the city has been able to showcase its beauty, transforming its industrial wasteland into modern and welcoming sites. Dynamic, Hautmont offers, in addition to its architectural heritage of great interest, numerous cultural events that brighten the city throughout the year.
