Dedicated to the art and history of the town of Gray, in Haute-Saône, the Baron Martin museum has taken place since the beginning of the 20th century in the town's castle, on the heights of the Saône. It takes its name from Baron Alexandre Martin, former owner of the building.
Labeled Museum of France, the Baron Martin museum is therefore held in an old medieval castle of which there remains a tower, vaulted basements and surrounding walls, transformed in the 18th century. It reveals a large gallery upstairs dedicated to thematic temporary exhibitions organized three to four times a year.
The ground floor is reserved for the permanent collection with around fifteen rooms presenting works from Antiquity to the present day, such as a Crown of Flowers by Brueghel de Velours, A la cuisine de Foujita or many drawings and pastels by Prud'hon.
