Encircled by ramparts and moats fed by the waters of the Aa river, the town of Gravelines offers visitors an interesting fortified heritage. Boat and pedalo trips around the ramparts are excellent way of discovering the fortifications modified by Vauban.
Worth a visit: the Drawing and Original Print Museum housed in the former powder magazine of the château-arsenal, which traces the history and techniques of the print.
Located in the Nord-Pas de Calais on the Opal Coast, halfway between Calais and Dunkerque, Gravelines, fortified city rebuilt by Vauban, governor in 1706, is part of the Metropolitan Area "Dunkerque Grand Littoral" and belongs to the group of seven municipalities that make up the "Rives de l'Aa.
