Located at the confluence of two rivers, on a slope-shaped natural amphitheater near the Lot Valley, Conques offers a heritage rich in history, tradition and cultural life.
At the end of the eighth century, the hermit Dadon chose this site to withdraw into solitude. Thus arose a Benedictine monastery with the Carolingian dynasty. With Saint Foy's relics brought from Agen in 866, Conques became a pilgrimage center and a major step on the way to Saint Jacques de Compostela. The cult of the saint spread throughout Western Christendom and donations are increasing for the abbey.
The village, situated around its abbey, built in the eleventh-twelfth century, offers visitors many houses facades with wood sides and covered with stones. The visitor will find places of gastronomic specialties and arts and crafts in number.
The village of Grand-Vabre is located west of the department of Aveyron, in the Lot Valley, 5 km from Grand Site of Conques, near the departments of Cantal and Lot.
The place is ideal for hiking, fishing and boating and nature.
