Things to see and do

Visiting Grancey-le-Château-Neuvelle is a real dive into history. The village has preserved many vestiges of successive eras, revealing today to its visitors real architectural marvels.

Starting from the halls, built in the 19th century on the site of a farm, enter the uniquely charming alleyways. You will discover the fountain with its Diana of Gabies, a cast iron replica of an Italian statue kept in the Louvre Museum. Do not miss to enter the courtyard of the Louvre with its incredible 17th century wrought iron snail.

During your wanderings, you can also see the gate of the old castle, the drawbridge, or the castle of Grancey. Nicknamed the little Versailles of Burgundy, the latter dates from the beginning of the 18th century and was erected on the remains of a medieval fortress from the 11th century.

Rue Saint-Antoine, don't miss the 17th century house with its lava roof, its tower and the remains of corbels. You can then see the fortified gate of Burgundy from the 13th century, listed as a Historic Monument, or the old watering trough in the shape of a horseshoe.

The churches are also worth a detour. Let yourself be seduced by the church of the Virgin of the Nativity with its wooden altar in the Louis XV style or by the Romanesque church of Saint-Germain. Dating from the 10th century, it features a 13th century choir.

But Grangey-le-Château-Neuvelle is also a very beautiful natural heritage, especially with the Eyes of the Weeping Rock. These two orifices in the rock, in the shape of eyes, allow water to flow in the event of melting snow or heavy rain. The site takes its name from the legend of Nova which tells that the wife of one of the lords of the city fell at the foot of the rocks the day before her husband returned from the crusades. The lord would have cried so much that the stone would have kept the memory.
