Village of Haute-Corse, located on the Island of Beauty, Ghisoni is the capital of Fiumorbo, a natural region of the eastern facade. Located in the upper valley of Fium'Orbu, it is part of the Regional Natural Park of Corsica. The town is located a hundred kilometers from Bastia, not far from Vezzani and Palneca.
Occupied from the beginning of the 5th century, the village of Ghisoni developed in the Middle Ages, including the installation of a convent held by Byzantine monks in the 7th century. Older than Ajaccio or Bastia, it is sadly illustrated in the eighteenth century at the time of the War of Independence in a bloody battle.
Appreciated for its charm and tranquility, the town of Ghisoni seduced by its ancient architecture, as much as by the passes that surround it. Its alpine ski resort and its great sporting life make it a hotspot for outdoor tourism.
Built in the fifteenth century, the chapel of the Brotherhood of the Holy Cross is now decommissioned. Inside, you can admire beautiful wall paintings of the eighteenth century representing the descent of Christ, listed Historical Monuments.
As you walk through the village, you can also enjoy the Romanesque Santa Maria Church, built in the 15th century, or the 17th century San Francheschinu Church. The latter has a beautiful organ and an outdoor statue of Francheschinu Mucchielli.
The village is full of buildings of traditional architecture, like casa, palazzu or sheepfolds. We can still see two Genoese bridges.
The Neptune fountain, which is part of the general inventory of cultural heritage, is decorated with a cast iron statue made by Gabriel-Vital Dubray in the mid-19th century. Duplicates of the work are visible in different world cities like Santiago de Chile, Rio de Janeiro, Cologne, or Valparaiso.
Former mining site, Ghisoni still presents remains of the silver lead mine, zinc, copper Finosa. These are included in the general inventory of cultural heritage.
Do not miss to visit the forest exhibition in the forest house of Marmano, it tells the history of the surroundings, as well as the local fauna and flora.
Northeast of the town, it is possible to discover the Roman site of Pieve and its remains.
Opened in the mid-1970s, the ski resort Ghisoni-Capanelle takes place on the site of the sheepfolds of Capanelle. It comes alive every winter, offering a ski area stretching from 1650 to 1840 meters above sea level and is specialized in downhill skiing.
Crossed by several hiking trails, the town of Ghisoni is particularly on the route of the famous GR20, known walkers for its difficulty and beauty.
The natural heritage of Ghisoni is really worth a detour, and you can walk to discover the Sorba Pass, Carpiniccia Point, Lavina Point, Bastani Lake, Zorpi Point, Scalajolo Point, Mount Calvi and more. Kyrie Eleison Point.
On June 29, Rosse organizes the feast of St. Peter and St. Paul.
August 4 is the feast of St. Dominic in the hamlet of Galgaccio.
In mid-August, the village is animated by the Oriente race, one of the toughest races of the Corsica Mountain Challenge. Twenty kilometers long, it has a vertical drop of more than 1,500 meters.
The Jazz in Paese festival is an opportunity to attend many concerts in mid-August.
For August 15, the village celebrates the Virgin and his Assumption.
The feast day takes place on September 8, for the Nativity of the Virgin.
The feast of Notre-Dame-de-la-Merci is held in Rosse on September 24th.
