Génos is a small village in Occitania in the department of Hautes-Pyrénées. It takes place not far from Bagnères-de-Bigorre, in the heart of the country of Aure and the valley of Louros. Limitrophe of Spain, with the city of Aragon, it is ideally placed to enjoy the cultures of the two countries.
Called Leuger de Lenos in the early twelfth century, the village of Génos had to wait until the 19th century to take its current name. A mountain commune and agricultural land, it is best known today for its tourist development. Its exceptional landscapes and the various outdoor activities it offers make it a privileged place for lovers of clean air and nature.
Its lake, in particular, attracts many visitors each year, eager to enjoy these breathtaking views and the benefits of its waters.
The lake of Génos-Loudenvielle, straddling the two communes, is surely the most appreciated tourist site of this village of Hautes-Pyrenees. Bordered by forests and forests, it offers a large number of activities of all kinds. Several hiking trails leave the site to enjoy the local flora and fauna, while the younger ones can enjoy the playgrounds designed for them. You can also learn about fishing, canoeing, diving in the playground, canoeing, or cold sweat on the suspended course. Possessing waters with great virtues, the lake is also equipped with a balneotherapy center, first complex of relaxation in thermal water of the Pyrenees, to benefit from health care and well-being. You will find baths of traditions from all over the world such as Japan, Tibet or ancient Rome. Picnic areas are also set up to enjoy the whole day from this unique place.
Génos is also an important ski resort, that of Val Louron. Located at 2100 meters above sea level, it puts forward fun and family spaces adapted to all ages and all levels. You will find 19 ski slopes, 22 kilometers away, as well as several recreational facilities.
Walking through the village of Génos, you will also be able to appreciate its castle, dating from the thirteenth century, or even its church. Dedicated to Saint Vincent, it was built in the sixteenth century and modified during the nineteenth century.
Around the village, you can introduce yourself to other outdoor sports such as skiing, hang-gliding, paragliding, or mountain biking, on trails specially dedicated to these activities.
In the summer, Génos offers a night market on Wednesday at the end of the day.
In August, the Lake of Génos-Loudenvielle welcomes each year the fair traditions Pyrenees. On the program, enhancement of local gastronomy, songs, folk dances, or demonstrations of ancient crafts.
