Building the best preserved Romanesque of Albi, the Saint-Michel takes the heart of Gaillac in the Tarn department. Listed building, it was built in the late eleventh century, together with a monastic priory, to be attached to the Benedictine abbey of Gaillac.
The St. Michael's Church, full of charm, reveals the appearance of a fortress with few narrow openings like loopholes. Fully limestone, it is always topped by a square tower placed in front of the apse.
Hard to miss his incredible western portal made in the early twentieth century. The latter is inspired by the door of St. Sernin in Toulouse.
