Gabarret, town situated on the end east of Landes and bordering the Gers and the Lot-et-Garonne.

Pleasant and quiet, this small village, 5 minutes from the station of Barbotan les Thermes, offers guests many shops and services (butcher shops, bakeries, grocery stores, newsagents, hairdressers, petrol station, doctors, pharmacies...). On the occasion of its festivals in late July Gabarret the rhythm of the bandas, and animations proposed for 5 days: flower parade with music, picnics, bodegas, encierro, landaises, various competitions, fun fair...

The wealth of its highly regarded productions are served in good gourmet restaurants: foie gras, confit, asparagus, pastis Landais, crisps, armagnac...

Former capital of Vicomté Gabardan, past Gabarret was glorious but retains almost nothing of it. One can still retain some emblematic dates in its history. In 1080, Viscount Gabarret Peter I founded a Benedictine monastery and basilica of the Holy Sepulchre. It is placed under the control of the Gironde Abbey Sauve Majeure. With the arrival of the monks, the village of Gabarret enjoys the right to sauveté. The peasants who came to settle there got freedom, a casal (enclosed building with garden) or a piece of land of the forest. The Sauveté also served as a refuge for fugitives and wanderers. There, they found protection, work and food.

The fourteenth to fifteenth century, the lords of Foix and Armagnac dispute the Gabardan. Before becoming king of France, Henry IV runs through the Gabardan staying in different homes and castles including Castle Caumale. In 1569, the basilica and the priory are not resistant to Protestant attacks, only survives the monks' refectory. He became the parish church. Only the house of Gabardan (1456) remains a witness to this era.
