Green station of the Regional Natural Park of Haut-Languedoc, Fraisse-sur-Agout takes place in Occitania, in the department of Hérault. This small village of a little more than 350 inhabitants is located on the mountain, in the arrondissement of Béziers. It is also bordering the department of Tarn via the commune of Murat-sur-Vèbre.
Today, the village of Fraisse-sur-Agout is especially appreciated for its natural heritage and ecological tourism. If the site is known for its farms and its timber exploitation, it is mostly frequented for its hiking trails or outdoor activities.
There are plenty of sites to discover and reflect the history of Fraisse-sur-Agout over the centuries. Its fishing points also make the success of this commune pleasant and warm.
Several menhirs take place on the territory of Fraisse-sur-Agout, that of Picarel, and that of the Cambaïssy, testifying to an ancient occupation near the village. Registered with the Monuments Historiques, the site of Prat Alaric allows to admire a farm covered by a roof of broom built according to traditional methods.
While hiking around the town, you can also discover the rock carvings of the Serre du Cambaïssy, or the nearby Mazade oven. Do not miss to admire the castle of Les Sierres, this building served as HQ to the resistance during the Second World War.
But the main tourist attraction of Fraisse-sur-Agout remains surely its lake of Vesoles. Famous for anglers, it also allows you to learn water sports such as windsurfing or boating. It takes place on the Somail plateau, a true paradise for lovers of heather and conifers.
On the commune, you can also take the didactic path on the theme of the force of water, a thousand-year-old tree, or the Sentier Prévert, marked and very poetic. Boulodromes also take place in different places to learn this typically French leisure.
In the vicinity of Fraisse-sur-Agout, do not miss to walk in the wood of Sause, the Fontfroide pass, or in the forest of Office.
At the beginning of July, the village organizes its annual festival for three days. The program includes entertainment for children, musical entertainment, petanque competitions and lively meals.
As of August 15, the festivities of Fraisse-sur-Agout are centered on flowers and fishing. Spectacles, donkey rides or even concerts are offered.
