Sub-prefecture of the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, Forcalquier is a medieval town crossed by the Via Domitia.

You can visit the old town with its narrow streets. There are small places, some of which are adorned with fountains, beautiful houses from the 12th to the 15th century, which you can admire the entries.

Forcalquier is served by the A51 motorway, its entrance is about 10 km (Brillanne).

Things to see and do

Notre-Dame du Bourguet: co-cathedral known since 1155. Original plan of a Latin cross with a nave barrel vault, Romanesque transept, apse Gothic, modified in the 17th century by the addition of aisles. The organ is from 1629, a remarkable instrument. Beautiful stained glass window above.

Cordeliers Convent: Franciscan monastery from the 13th century. Free access to the gardens and cloisters. The rooms are sometimes open for exhibitions. Perfumer Workshop: During creation of perfume in the beautiful amphitheater of the convent of the Cordeliers. A magical and unforgettable proposed by the European University of scents and flavors. Do not miss!

Cemetery historical monument for its yews form a green cloister.

Mourres the natural site: These are limestone buildings that have been shaped by erosion. They have about 25 million years. Mourre Provencal means head. They are huge limestone mushrooms and they are spectacular. The place is pretty wild. Access: Forcalquier, take Avenue Marcel André rising to the left of the town hall square, then turn right onto the D12 towards Fontienne. After about 2.5 km you arrive on the site. A large parking "bench cedar" is on the left there is room for several cars and a bus.
