Capital of the Vendée until the beginning of the 19th century, the City of Art and History of Fontenay-le-Comte is a lovely place to wander around with its charming banks and its fantastic architecture: the Belliard square and its arcaded houses, the Renaissance buildings, the mansions, the timber-framed houses of the Loges street, and the Notre-Dame church of Flamboyant Gothic style.
