Housed in a wooded countryside, Flers is a small rural village of nearly 180 souls. Strongly marked by history, the town contains several memorials to remember that Flers was completely destroyed during the Great War. Rebuilt during the interwar period, the village managed to regain its original physiognomy and its tranquility. It is in a rolling landscape that the houses huddle together. The economy of the village is mainly oriented towards agriculture. The cultivated fields adjoin the meadows bordered by the undergrowth in a natural mosaic of pure beauty. The place is the ideal place to recharge and enjoy a break in city life.

Things to see and do

Not far from the Scarpe-Escaut Regional Natural Park, Flers offers a natural setting particularly suitable for walks and hikes. Wooded hillsides and hectic valleys alternate in a bucolic landscape to wish. Put on your hiking shoes and go for a bath of invigorating nature to meet the fauna and flora of this preserved territory. The walk requires some effort to get to the top of the relatively steep hills, but the panorama is well worth the hours of walking.

In another perspective, Flers is also the place where you can gather in front of the AIF Burial Ground memorial. Taken by the Germans, the commune was the scene of violent battles of the Battle of the Somme. The British, determined to break through the enemy lines, used for the first time tanks in the reconquest of the territory of Flers. After a long week of battle, Flers was freed from the Germanic grip. The cemetery and the memorial testify to the ravages of the war of the time in the small village.

Restored in 1699, the village church is one of the monuments to visit during your stay in Flers. Typical of the country, it welcomes you for the Sunday mass or for a moment of prayers.
