The town of Faux-la-Montagne is in the south of the Creuse, on the Millevaches plateau. It is part of the Community of Municipalities Creuse Great South and the Millevaches Regional Natural Park and Union Lake Vassivière.
The name comes from Faux-la-Montagne "beech" in Latin fagus (beech, fayardier). Faux-la-Montagne has about 360 inhabitants, it has managed maintain economic, cultural, social and services.
