Rural municipality of Hérault, Faugères takes place in the heart of the Regional Natural Park of Haut-Languedoc, on the territory of production of AOC wine Faugères. It also produces AOC Languedoc and IGP Haute-Vallée-de-l'Orb, Pays-d'Hérault and Pays-d'Oc. It is located about twenty kilometers from Béziers, not far from Bédarieux and Hérépian.

Of ancient origin, the commune of Faugères experienced a major boom in the 19th century with the arrival of the railway and the opening of a station on the line from Béziers to Bédarieux. The latter is now closed.

Things to see and do

The municipality of Faugères has a rich religious heritage. Passing visitors can thus discover the Saint-Christophe church, the 12th century Sainte-Marie de Soumartre church, the Caumette chapel, a Protestant temple or even the Saint-Étienne-de-Frontignan chapel.

Walking through the narrow streets of the town, it is also possible to admire beautiful 12th century houses, a very well preserved mill offering a breathtaking view of the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean or even dry stone huts typical of the region.

Hiking enthusiasts will appreciate the various circuits leading to the hamlet of Soumartre or the peak of Tantajo. Culminating at 518 meters, it offers a panoramic view of Bédarieux and its surroundings.
