Municipality of nearly 14,000 inhabitants, Fameck takes place in the Grand Est region, in the heart of the Moselle. Close to Thionville and the French-Luxemburg border, it is located in the Fensch valley, just a few kilometers from Amnéville.

The commune was formed just after the French Revolution, in 1789, with the approximation of the hamlets of Rémelange, Budange, Edange, Morlange-lès-Remelange and Fameck. Mainly agricultural, she joined France after 1870, then turning to the steel industry, great economy of the time.

Today, the city of Fameck benefits from its proximity to Thionville and Luxembourg, as well as its important architectural heritage which testifies to the rich past of this territory considered as one of the oldest to have been populated in the region.

Things to see and do

Many times destroyed, the original church of Saint-Nicolas dates from the eleventh century. The current building dates from the late 17th century, the date of the installation of the Third Order of St. Francis, and was renovated in the mid-nineteenth century.

Dating from the late eighteenth century, the church of St. Martin however has a beautiful square choir of the fifteenth century. The building, located in the old Fameck, is a typical Lorraine church-barn.

While walking in the city, you will also be able to discover the chapel Sainte-Anne of the beginning of the XIXe century, as well as the chapel Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption. Metal construction of the twentieth century, the latter takes place in the city Albert-Bosment.

Partly converted into housing, the old castle Rémelange dates from the early eighteenth century. It was formerly an outbuilding of Justemont Abbey.

A contemporary artist, Greg Gawra has been traveling the valley for twenty years to illustrate the walls of neighborhoods. One can notably admire his work in Budange.

We can still admire several old wash houses in the different hamlets of Fameck, as well as several crosses and crucifixes.

Events and festivities

The market is held every Saturday morning. The city also organizes a traditional Christmas market at the end of the year.

Every last or penultimate Saturday of June, Fameck celebrates Saint John.

On July 14, for the national holiday, Fameck organizes a fireworks and a popular ball.

At the end of July, place at Budange en Fête with its fireworks, its funfair and its various animations.

At the end of August, Parc en Fête is an opportunity to have fun in a relaxed atmosphere enjoying inflatable structures, deckchairs, sports introductions or children's entertainment.

The Sports Festival is held each year in September with sports and fun introductions.

The Arab film festival is organized every year in October.
