Peoplé of a little more than 200 inhabitants, Évisa is a village located on the Island of Beauty, in the department of Corse-du-Sud. This Corsican mountain community takes place in the microregion of Sevi in Dentro, in the Regional Natural Park of Corsica.
Formerly a forest and shepherd village, Évisa is located at 900 meters above sea level and offers unique and unspoiled landscapes. Today, the municipality, which has lost many of its inhabitants in the course of the 20th century, is best known for its intense tourist activity during the summer period.
On the program of this little Corsican paradise, hiking in the mountains, swimming and relaxing on the beaches, or even resting on the shaded terraces of the cafes. The proximity with some of the most beautiful natural sites of Corsica makes Évisa an ideal destination to discover all the charm of the Mediterranean island.
Long chestnut production center, the village of Évisa reveals a beautiful chestnut grove to discover during a walk. The chestnuts that grow here are used in particular for the flour that benefits from the Farina di Corsica PDO.
Mountain enthusiasts will find their happiness in Évisa with several hiking trails giving access to the large granite settlements of the mountain massifs of the center of the island. You will be able to discover the Paglia Orba at 2525 meters, or the Capu Tafunatu which culminates at 2335 meters. The Verghju Pass or the Bocca at U Saltu also offer stunning views of the red granite of the coastal massifs.
Forest community, Évisa reveals preserved spaces perfect for family walks or picnics with friends. Pines and beeches share the space of the forest of Aïtone classified zone Natura 2000.
The village of Évisa also has an interesting architectural heritage like its church of St. Martin. Constructed at the beginning of the 16th century, it is completely redone in the following century. Inside, you can discover two 17th-century Genoese silver chalices, or an 18th-century altarpiece classified as a Historic Monument and depicting the Virgin and Child on his lap. You will also be able to appreciate the Saint-Cyprien chapel at the beginning of the 20th century, or Notre-Dame-des-Neiges, a statue erected in the Aïtone forest and which undergoes an annual pilgrimage at the beginning of August.
As you walk through Évisa, you will appreciate the houses of typical Corsican architecture, or the bridge of Zaglia, in stone, which crosses the Tavulella. The latter has been classified as a Historic Monument. During your walk, you will also see ancient chestnut dryers, mills or even chestnut silos.
Many hiking trails allow you to discover the built heritage of Évisa, as well as the mountain and forest landscapes of its surroundings.
The Corsican book festival in July allows you to discover the best works of the region and to discuss with local authors.
At the beginning of August, the ball of Saint Amour brings a festive atmosphere to the village.
The Pilgrimage of Notre-Dame-des-Neiges is held every year at the beginning of August.
Every last weekend of November, the chestnut festival makes it possible to discover all the secrets of one of the flagship products of the commune of Évisa.
