- Geographical Presentation:
- Esbly, shared by nearly 6 000 ( 5 942 inhabitants in the census of 2012, 824 inhabitants in 1900) with an area of 312 hectares, is located 45 kilometers east of Paris and 8 kilometers from Meaux.
- It is geographically connected to the plateau of Brie Marne which forms the northern boundary and is situated on the left bank of a wide bend of the Marne.
- Esbly the canton of Crecy -la-Chapelle depending on the district of Meaux.
- The town is accessible from Paris from a comfortable road network ( RN34 - RD5 - RD45 - RD239 ). National 3 and the A4 significantly improve contacts with Paris and Meaux. The town is served by a railway station, regular bus routes to the municipalities in the canton, TGV and RER Chessy.
- As for the environment and landscape, respecting nature and reducing pollution is a key theme highlighting the need to recapture and upgrading of waterways, management and water resources ( capture, sanitation), waste treatment and mitigation of flood effects. This last point strongly interested the common Esbly since a third of the area is in a flood zone, an area that is strongly marked by the presence of water with 6 miles of canals and rivers.
- The town is bordered to the north by the Marne, crossed from south to north by the Grand Morin of 2 kilometers and is cut by the Chalifert Canal east to west. There is also a ru, uk Coupvray, which was the nozzle in part through the city center.
- The climate is degraded oceanic. The valleys of the Grand Morin and Marne are drier and warmer than units trays, sheltered from the wind. The rainfall of around 600 mm / year, is lower than the Brie plateau.
- History of the town :
- The Esbly territory is an ancient occupation site. The update tombs, coins of the Belgian tribe of Leici, on one side a boar's head and the other a human head, tells us that the Celts lived from the fifth, sixth century J.- C. in the territory of Esbly.
- Esbly has had several names over the ages : Abeli , Abelicum, Esbliaco, Esbliacum, Ebeli, Ebli and finally Esbly.
- Until the 12th century, the town raised the Archbishop of Sens and the lordship of the Abbey of Saint-Germain-des-Prés who owned the territory of Saint -Germain -des- Couilly in which was included Esbly to Montry.
- A chapel was built in 1185 by the Bishop of Meaux, Lizy Simon, where a chaplain came on Sunday officer.
- The abbeys St. Genevieve of Paris and Pont-aux -Dames possessed some land Esbly ( including grassland that extends from the bottom of the bridge Coupvray Esbly ) that were transformed into pool by the Comte de Crecy, vassal of Count of Champagne until 1285 and then vassal of the king. At that time, the lords of Esbly housed in a mansion built on land of the abbey of Hermières.
- The King detached later Esbly of lordship of field Reilhac as a gift to Antoine Chamberlain.
- In 1630, the lordship became a possession of Charlet family who kept it until 1778. The Charlet lived in a castle located rue Victor Hugo. Mr. Charlet, abbot of Verdelot and lord of Esbly, built on land he gave to the parish, the present church was inaugurated on June 24, 1692. Near the shrine, Father Charlet did file a cassette which contained gold and silver coins as well as all the currencies that were current at the time. The tape also contained a room decorated on one side of the Abbot of portrait Charlet founder and representation of the Esbly church on the other side.
- In 1742, the Prairie du Vivier was sold to the uncle of the Prince of Rohan Cardinal de Reims. A few years later, in 1778, the area of Charlet was awarded to Prince Louis de Rohan, Lord of Coupvray.
- The last Lord of Esbly, the Marquis of Arvilliers, bought the land around 1791. On the north slope of the city was then called " the little Burgundy " (currently Vine Street ), the Marquis had a vineyard whose raw was one of the most appreciated of Brie.
- Towards 1893-1895, Esbly becomes, like many cities, a "republican town " which was the first mayor Claude Frager. The population of the city increased over the centuries.
- The construction of the station in 1870 favored the expansion of the town which had at that date 400 inhabitants.
- In 1894, the town had 600 inhabitants, which led to the creation of a post office, a gendarmerie walk to bus services serving Crecy, Couilly and Coupvray.
- In 1974, the development of the southern slope called " strong field" sharply increased the population, the 1999 census reported 5160 Esblygeois.
- In 2008, true to their village, and 49 Esblygeois Esblygeoises born Esbly, still live there.
