Jules-François Lombart, a chocolate manufacturer in the late nineteenth century, but also a great art lover, built this museum to honor the memory of his native parents of Doullens. When the work was completed in 1908, he exhibited all his collections and donated it to the city.
The building has an architecture corresponding to the idea of a museum in the early 20th century: a large main gallery lit by a glass roof, surrounded by two pavilions.
Inaugurated on June 28, 1908, the Lombart museum opens its doors in great pomp. This day remains engraved in the memory of the Doullennais as a day of joy, when the whole streets were decorated with flowers and flags. The opening ceremony was attended by distinguished guests such as Marshal Joffre, the Prefect of the Somme, the Minister of Agriculture and the Under-Secretary of State for Fine Arts. Speeches, poems, music and a 600-place banquet animated this day of celebration.
Entirely renovated in 2007, you can admire paintings from the French school from the 18th to the 20th century, such as Corot, Chardin, Daubigny, Saunier, the Bail brothers and other local artists such as Lucien Andrieu, Horace Colmaire and Félix Niaut.
Like an immense cabinet of curiosity, there are also many unusual objects such as a samurai armor, old weapons or lithographs of the famous illustrator of Montmartre: Francisque Poulbot who came to spend his holidays in Neuvillette, not far away Of Doullens, where his grandparents resided.
The chapel of Louvencourt, adjacent to the museum, also presents temporary exhibitions as well as ethnological and archaeological collections (especially Egyptian with a mummy of the XVIIIth dynasty, dated 3500 years).
Do not fail to greet the local giant Florimond along Minton! Florimond, the hero of "Contes ed'Florimond", was born in the 1920s by Charles Dessaint. With his chin, his big mustache and wicker basket, he is the incarnation of the peasant Picard.
