Former Annoeullin hamlet on the edge of Mélantois and Weppes, the town derives its name from the word 'gifts', the 13th century, created a river to bring water to Lille and thanks to donations from residents that has built a bridge to allow passage of local residents. Don is erected in town June 5, 1948.
Don owes its development to its location. Very soon, the plants are installed on the Deûle and textiles, flour milling, breweries and tanneries will quickly prosperity of the town. Navigation is also very active in the 18th century.
Today, the town, which offers numerous parks and walking trails, joined the Lille metropolis Natural Area within the Park area Deûle.
