The castle of Caudon is located on the territory of the locality of Domme, in the Dordogne, a dozen kilometers south of Sarlat-la-Canéda.
The building is located precisely northeast of the beautiful country house, on a hill overlooking the left bank of the Dordogne.
It was built in 1805 on a domain bought in 1777 by the jurist Jacques de Maleville, one of the drafters of the Civil Code under Napoleon I. On these lands, a noble lair (mansion) had already been erected and abandoned. Directoire style, the castle is then owned by the son who develops the park and built an orangery and common, the grandson of Jacques de Maleville finally endowing in 1835 the building of an upper floor and side pavilions.
Protected as historical monuments, the castle is famous for the avenue of plane trees that leads to it and its English-style boxwood gardens dominating the Dordogne valley from which one enjoys a magnificent view of the bastide town. Domme. The park is labeled Remarkable Garden and it is connected to a chapel built in a cave, surmounted by a steeple-wall, also subject to registration in the Inventory.
