15th century building located in the heart of Vienne, the castle of Dissay was erected by Pierre d'Amboise, then bishop of Poitiers, to make it his residence and that of his successors. Classified as an historic monument, it became a prison after the French Revolution before being bought in the middle of the 19th century to benefit from a major restoration.
Late Gothic, early Renaissance style, the castle of Dissay forms a large rectangle entirely surrounded by moats with two perfectly intact corner towers. Visitors can admire beautiful stone fireplaces inside the keep before going to discover the remains of the old chapel (pillars, murals, bishop's tomb).
Not far from the 18th century bull's-eye style outbuildings, with their Mansart-style roofs, it is possible to discover the gardens listed as Historic Monuments. They come in the form of a terrace in a French garden with a water bed. The park, designed by Le Nôtre, is bordered by a charming canal leading to a Louis XV style pavilion which once served as a music room.
Since the end of the 2010s, the castle of Dissay has hosted a luxury hotel complex with spa, hammam and gourmet restaurant.
