Commune of Mayenne, Pays de la Loire, Montsûrs-Saint-Céneré is an old medieval city located about twenty kilometers from Laval, near Mayenne and the A10 motorway.
Located in the heart of the Country of Art and History Coevrons-Mayenne, the municipality of Montsûrs-Saint-Céneré is a new municipality created on January 1, 2017 by the reunification of the two villages of Montsûrs and Saint-Céneré. Today the second economic pole of the Community of Communes of Coëvrons, it is also appreciated by visitors for its architectural heritage and for the charm of its landscapes.
Rural town, it also benefits from its proximity to some of the largest cities in the department, thus offering an ideal home for a holiday to discover the Mayenne.
Neo-Romanesque style, the church of St. Martin takes place in Montsûrs. Built in the nineteenth century, it is located on the site of the former chapel of the Three Mary. Inside, you can admire several works listed as Historical Monuments as objects, like the stained glass windows of François Fialeix's studio.
From the castle where André de Lohéac was born, former companion of Joan of Arc, there are still two towers. Do not miss to visit the tower called Paradise Biques, listed historical monument. It is also possible to see in the former town of Montsûrs, the chapel of Saint-Martin of the twelfth century and listed in the Historical Monuments, the chapel Saint-Ouie, only vestige of the castle of Ifs of the sixteenth century and listed in the Historical Monuments, or still the castle of Haut-Méral and its park.
On the territory of Saint-Céneré, you can also discover the castle of the Ducherie, together consisting of a castle and a farm built in the nineteenth century. It consists of four pavilions raised at the corners, and a gallery skirting the whole castle.
Do not miss to visit the arboretum, to discover the species of the animal park, or to walk along one of the marked hiking trails of the town that allow you to discover the local fauna and flora, as well as the most beautiful tourist monuments.
The market is held every Tuesday morning.
On July 14, the town celebrates the national holiday with a ball and fireworks.
At the beginning of August, the Montsûrs feast takes place over three days with a torchlight procession, a pétanque competition, concerts, a country meal or fireworks.
A garage sale is proposed at the end of August.
The Christmas market is held on the first Sunday in December.
