Active City of South Touraine, Descartes is located at the entrance to the valley of the Creuse Touraine, midway between the castles of the Loire, the Parc de la Brenne and Futuroscope. This real val Touraine between the plates and wood-crowned hills of Touraine and Poitou is a mecca of prehistory.

There are over 500,000 years, humans settled there to exploit the flint whose size and shaping provided knives, axes or fists, essential tools for survival and which were exported in many countries Europe.

Descartes is, from the earliest times, a busy thoroughfare and a major industrial city.

The medieval city of The Hague in Touraine, owes its present name in Descartes philosopher and mathematician of international renown, Rene Descartes, who was born March 31, 1596. His birthplace, now a museum dedicated to him.

Heritage House, a beautiful 19th century building, near the museum Descartes, presents the second important figure in the city, the writer René Boylesve Descartes born in The Hague April 14, 1867. A collection of lace caps and Touraine are also exposed and a small museum of prehistory and geology.

With its historical assets, its picturesque natural setting, Descartes now has many amenities that will satisfy everyone's tastes.

The tourist, as the inhabitants, has a large sports complex with indoor arena, stadium, tennis (two seats), velodrome, dojo, bowling ... A leisure park offers water park, tennis, mini golf and a vast lake for canoeing or kayaking.

Fans can also fish in waters, attend the circuits for cycling and hiking and equestrian trails, or do the many excursions that assess the sites, monuments and museums around Descartes.
