The park of the castle of Darney, in the Vosges, 35 km southwest of Epinal, adjoins the castle rebuilt in the 18th and 19th centuries on the basis of a medieval castle building.
The building once housed the town hall, and it is now the seat of a museum dedicated to Czechoslovakia: the locality has maintained close links with this nation since the First War. Nearby, 6000 Czech and Slovak legionaries fought between 1914 and 1918. The regiment was recognized by President Poincaré in June 1918, one of the prologues to the proclamation of the country's independence in October 1918.
The park is revealed a pleasant place to walk where you can still observe elements of medieval ramparts. Sculptures are installed and it is next to the plaque commemorating the visit of Czech President Tomas Masaryk, on the square that bears his name and where he stayed in 1918.
From the park, you can also enjoy views of the old town and the surrounding area, including the site where the Czech and Slovak soldiers fought.
