Town of Île-de-France located in Seine-et-Marne, Dammarie-les-Lys takes place on the left bank of the Seine, on the edge of the city of Melun. Based in forty kilometers from Paris, it is also close to Fontainebleau and its famous castle.
Old, City Dammarie-les-Lys already existed in antiquity. But it was not until the tenth century to visit the village at the origin of the current town. agricultural site, it is not before the twentieth century that develops and presents a more important industry. Its growth in population is impressive at the time, and Dammarie-les-Lys fills gradually to become the town of importance it is today.
The architectural heritage, but also natural of the town of Île-de-France attracts many visitors each year, eager to learn about the history of this eventful city.
Founded by the Queen of France, Blanche of Castile, the Royal Abbey of Lys still reveals some ruins in the town. Listed building, as the park and gardens, the Cistercian Abbey was raised in 1244. It was completely dismantled in the wake of the French Revolution in the eighteenth century.
Old mansion, the castle of Bouillants dates from the early twentieth century. Restored by the municipality, it now serves as art exhibitions. Another castle, that of Soubiran, also occupies the territory of the city. Near the forest of Fontainebleau, it dates from the nineteenth century and now houses a children's farm with many animals.
A castle is still famous today for hosting the participants of Star Academy, the Eaux Vives. Located along the Seine and the forest of Fontainebleau, it dates from the late eighteenth century. It is surrounded by a large park built at the same time, with a pleasure garden, a river, waterfalls, or even a vegetable garden and a cave.
Note also the presence of the castle Mun, that of St. Angelo, or the manor of the Croix Saint-Jacques. Rebuilt in 1859, the Notre-Dame-de-la-Visitation worth visiting.
The town of Dammarie-les-Lys is partly included in the Regional Park Gâtinais French, and several parks allow to learn about some outdoor activities. The Wood Strangle-Veau, inside the forest of Rochette is classified as sensitive natural area.
The weekly market is held every Thursday and Sunday morning.
In May, a local festival settles in the castle park in Soubiran, with exhibitors, culinary activities and various animations.
A Christmas market runs the center in December.
