Discover a peaceful mountain village located in the heart of Cathar Country, Cuxac-Cabardès, with its 9th century church, now listed as a Historic Monument.
In the Middle Ages, Cuxac-Cabardès had an important fortified castle, and the village experienced many battles during the Cathar wars due to its central position between Carcassonne, Albi, Lastours and Saissac.
Located in the Dure valley, it is surrounded by unspoiled nature, at the foot of the Montagne Noire hills at the end of the Massif Central. You will find alleys with pretty stone houses, a shaded square or even a walk along the banks of the river.
The town has local shops: bakery, butcher, grocery store, pharmacy and restaurant. Once a week, a pizza and fish van comes to the village. It has a pétanque court and a children's play area.
In the surroundings, you can discover Carcassonne, the castles of Lastours, Saissac and Hautpoul. Nearby, there are also abbeys, preserved medieval villages, forests, lakes with swimming, inflatable games and tree climbing.
