Cosne-d'Allier

Tourism, holidays & weekends guide in the Allier

Small town of Allier, in the former province of Bourbonnais, Cosne-d'Allier takes place about forty kilometers from Moulins. It is also close to Villefranche-d'Allier, Ygrande and Murat.

The woman who obtained her franchise charter from Duke Louis II at the beginning of the 15th century was formerly known as Cosne-en-Bourbonnais. Despite a fairly quiet history, the town was however illustrated to have welcomed the young King Charles IX and his mother Catherine de Medici in 1566 during their Grand Tour de France. It owes its development to its fairs and markets, as well as to the construction of its narrow-gauge railway network in the 19th century.

Today, the municipality that houses the number one hanger in Europe, attracts visitors with its charm, tranquility, but also its modest architectural heritage and its geographical proximity to some of the most beautiful sights of the region.

Things to see and do

Built in the early twentieth century to replace the first building of the twelfth century, in 1904, the church of Saint-Martin has no shortage of charm, as the castle and the park of Petit-Bois which replaced an old feudal building in the first half of the nineteenth century. The latter, municipal property, is now managed by the association Viltaïs.

The town has several marked hiking trails to discover the local flora and fauna on foot or mountain bike. Of particular note are the trails of the three rivers, Eye or Between the Aumance and Tauvanet, which are respectively 17, 16, 4 and 8 km.

Ideal setting for an outing with family or friends, the pond of Vieure proposes in summer season a supervised bathing, excursions in pedal boats, windsurfing, kayaks or canoes, as well as grounds of volleyball, beach volleyball and petanque, and table tennis tables. Labeled Blue Flag, the site is also accessible to fishermen and also has a first aid station, dry toilets or educational trail Hedgerows and Orchards.

Do you want to maintain your shape all year long? Come and enjoy the Clairval swimming pool, a family-sized space in a welcoming rural environment, and enjoy the sunroof, according to the weather and the seasons!
