Commune of Savoy with more than 6000 inhabitants, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, Cognin takes place at the gates of Chambéry. At the gates of the Chartreuse massif, on the banks of the Hyères, it is also located not far from Saint-Sulpice, La Motte-Servolex and Vimines.
Known from medieval times under the name of Cohonnium, the city of Cognin experienced significant development during this period, seeing the construction of a large number of buildings still visible today in the Savoyard city.
Known for its production of Bois de Chartreuse, the first AOC in the wood industry in France, the town also benefits from an exceptional natural setting, being an integral part of the Chartreuse Regional Natural Park and benefiting from two flowers at the Towns Competition and flowery villages of France.
