Clerval is located in the Franche-Comté in the department of Doubs, 35 km to 50 km Montbéliard and Besançon. The inhabitants are called Clervalois. Clerval was founded in the 12th century, when the Count of Burgundy built a castle. The site was inhabited since antiquity and even prehistory. Cave Milopet revealed traces of human occupation dating from the Neolithic.
Over the centuries, a village was built around the castle, a walled city surrounded by walls.
Since 2001, the municipality has made significant investments to enhance its built heritage.
Gastronomic specialties: cheese (cream cheese production, county and clocks), wafers Clervaloises.
The Museum of Memory and Peace, created in June 1990: As part of the duty of memory and to perpetuate the memory of the French and Allies who fought or died for France, the Museum of Memory and de la Paix de Clerval presents the two great conflicts of the twentieth century: the 1914-1918 war and the conflicts of decolonization (Indochina and Algeria) in the East wing of the old castle; the 1939-1945 war in a renovated building.

The playground offers entertainment for children of all ages: outdoor games, petanque and multi-sports field.
In Clerval, there are more than 25 associations offering various activities: petanque, badminton, football, handball, judo, walking, tennis, table tennis, music school and fanfare harmony, firefighters, fishing, manual activities, scrabble, theater, municipal library, gymnastics, dance.
The cycle route (Nantes-Budapest) goes to Clerval, along the Doubs, which allows very pleasant walks on foot, by bike, on rollers...
See the Santoche dolmen in the woods. Very easy access, even by car.
Carnival in the spring: it takes place every second year in Clerval: a year in Clerval then a year in Sancey-le-Grand.
Garage sale: the 2nd half of June.
Oh colors: this big event takes place on the weekend of July 14 and is organized by the municipality.
Christmas market: early December.
Many other events (disco, Country, Brazilian (with show), theater, dance...) are organized by the Clervalois Festival Committee.
