Cizay-la-Madeleine

Building of the beginning of the thirteenth century, the abbey of Asnière is now classified as an historic monument. Prosperous in the Middle Ages, it quickly became a fine example of a current soon called Angevin Gothic or Plantagenet style. Its ruins, private properties, remain visible to the public, which can notably admire a church of the late twelfth century, a chapel abbey of the end of the fourteenth century, an abbey dwelling, a cloister, a chapter, a monastic barn, a hotel, or a dovecote of the seventeenth century completely restored.

Listed as an historic monument, the Château d'Épinats is an old castle worth visiting, as is the Saint-Denis church. The latter is a building listed historical monument partially rebuilt in the nineteenth century. One can admire a choir of the thirteenth century preceded by a span of the twelfth century, and a steeple shaped hexagonal pyramid restored in the nineteenth century as well.

As you walk through the town, you can also discover the priory of Breuil-Bellay, listed building to the Historical Monuments, or the priory of La Madeleine, listed historical monument.

Located nearby, the forest of Brossay is an opportunity to appreciate the local flora and fauna time marked hiking.

In September, place the famous bike rally in the vicinity of Cizay-la-Madeleine.

In December, the town offers a farmers' market.
