Things to see and do

At the heart of Loir-et-Cher, Cheverny offers the world an exceptional historical and architectural heritage.

Castle Cheverny is the main tourist attraction of this village along the Loire. Classified as an historic monument, it was built in the seventeenth century in a classical style. In the twentieth century, it served as a model for the famous Hergé Moulinsart castle that we find in his comics, Tintin. Inside, it is possible to admire the dining room and wood panels depicting the story of Don Quixote, the impressive stone staircase dating from Louis XIII and its rustic sculptures, the great and the small lounge, a living tapestry with beautiful examples of seventeenth-century Flemish tapestry, or a beautiful library holds over 2,000 books. Added to this is the armory, the largest room in the castle or the room that housed the king Henri IV in particular. The park of the castle, large almost 100 hectares, for its part has a beautiful garden to the French reconstituted. A kennel is still present, with hundreds of dog breeds, and it is possible to attend to their daily supper. Next to this building, a permanent exhibition presents the work of Hergé the castle of Moulinsart, including sound animations and models.

Listed historical monument, the castle of Troussay, smaller, is also one of the jewels of Cheverny. Built in the fifteenth century, it now has portions of the Renaissance, for older sites. Private and inhabited, the castle opens to the public only six rooms, the dining room, the hall, the music room, the lounge, the Oval Office and the oratory. Near the mansion, it is possible to discover the Sologne area, formerly cultivated by living a completely self-sufficient community. Sologne A museum was opened there, presenting elements of daily life in the nineteenth century, and a permanent exhibition on domesticity at that time.

The house wine and gallery can admire the collections of artists, while the twelfth-century church has a beautiful caquetoire.

In the town, a 18-hole international golf seduced athletes, while many hiking trails and marked bike paths allow you to admire the region, including vineyards AOC red, white and rosé.
