Member commune of the Auxerrois community, Chevannes takes place in the heart of Yonne, at the gates of Auxerre, not far from Lindry, Pourrain or Perrigny.
Of ancient origin, the town of Chevannes distinguished itself in the Middle Ages with its castle, the most important in the west of Auxerre. It takes its name from the Latin cavannae, meaning cabins, which evokes the modest habitat of the serfs of the local abbey. Fortified in the 14th century, the town remained an important place in the region in the centuries that followed.
Today, Chevannes attracts with its ideal geographical location for exploring the Yonne region.
