Municipality of Isère, in the Auvergne - Rhône-Alpes region, Chavanoz takes place about a hundred kilometers from Grenoble, in the former royal province of Dauphiné. It is located at the edge of the Rhône and Ain departments, not far from Lyon, Janneyrias and Leyrieu.
Populated since the Neolithic, as evidenced by the remains found on site, the territory of Chavanoz was occupied by the Gauls and then the Romans before experiencing significant growth in the Middle Ages with the construction of a religious center held by monks of Île Barbe.
