Labeled Remarkable Garden, the park of the castle of Valmer opens to visitors passing through Chançay, in Indre-et-Loire. Created in the 16th century to embellish a magnificent Renaissance castle, these hanging gardens underwent important transformations in the 18th century, notably with the addition of the high terrace.
In this park of some sixty hectares, lovers of French gardens will be seduced by the balustrades, statues, fountains, stairs or even the incredible troglodyte chapel from the 16th century. On more than eight levels, the colors and scents follow one another without ever being alike, offering various and varied atmospheres but all as pleasant as the others.
Overlooking the moat by nearly fifteen meters, the high terrace offers a breathtaking view before taking the terrace of the Florentine fountains. In season, peonies, wisteria or roses are present in abundance to seduce the sight and smell. Further on, the Léda terrace has the same layout as it did in its origins in the 17th century. Moving away from its walls covered with Chasselas trellises, it is then possible to browse the terrace of the Vases d'Anduze.
It's hard to miss the hectare of the conservatory vegetable garden and its 15th century design. The squares bordered by boxwood with a circular basin in the center are rich in fruit trees and other berry bushes.
Cultural and fun events are regularly organized in the Château de Valmer or in its park.
