Champlitte-la-Ville is a nearby village (1 km) from the town of Champlitte, but distinct from it. The apparent homonymy of the two localities can be explained as follows: the early settlement was first installed, the Gallo-Roman period (first century AD), in the plain, near water, constituting a "villa" (large farm on the present site of Champlitte-la-Ville).

Much later, around the 10th century, the lords of Fouvent have built a castle on the promontory (center of the current Champlitte), easier to defend. Part of the settlement was then moved slowly around the castle, forming a village castral, called "Champlitte-le-Chateau" to distinguish it from "Champlitte la villa".

Archaeological research conducted on its site link, through the centuries, the activity of the ancient Gallo-Roman to modern technology of today.

Currently, 88 Champlitte-la-Ville account the census of 2009. It is one of six common associated Champlitte.

Economy: If the activity of farmers still keeps great economic importance, the village was born and grow a company become the European leader in coating metals.

Things to see and do

The church was built in the eleventh century. The heart of the "villa". From this period remain the arches of the Romanesque nave and the octagonal baptismal font monolithic carved many symbolic motifs. The church was enlarged and modified over the centuries, but it is one of the few Romanesque churches in Haute-Saône to be standing despite the ravages of time and man. With its adjoining priory, it constitutes the religious establishment's oldest Champlitte sector. It is listed on the inventory of historical monuments. In the church since 2010 is also a nice collection of 13 all different sizes and all different bells smelters that deserve to be admired, collection offered by Catherine Dubost in memory of her husband Francis, collector and campanologue warned, death in 2000.

Curiosity: The pavement has a fifty tombstones, epitaphs at, most dating from the sixteenth century. The oldest are those of Renaud de Vergy (1313) and that of Poulain Say Knight (1360); the most recent are the eighteenth century.

Promenade: The river (the show, a tributary of the Saône) is nearby; the bridge is old, but it is not dated with certainty; the banks of the river offer a long pleasant shady walk.
