Chalmazel station is located on the territory of the commune of Chalmazel-Jeansagnière, in the Loire department, 30 km north-west of Montbrison, by road.
Its ski area which dominates the village from the southwest of the territory, ranges from 1100 to 1600 m altitude, on the slopes of Pierre-sur-Haute, the highest point of the Forez mountains, whose landscape consists of forests and moors.
The only resort in the department, its first slopes were laid out in the 1930s and the first ski lift was built in 1953.
From now on, the Chalmazel station, which is open from mid-December to the end of March, depending on snow conditions, has 7 ski lifts and a chairlift which in terms of alpine skiing serve 12 km of slopes (2 black, 5 red, 5 blue and 3 green). Note that 4 km of descent are equipped if necessary with artificial snow.
A snowpark at the top of the slopes and a snow garden with treadmill for young children are also accessible.
