Located along the Eau Bourde, Cestas is a commune of the Landes of Bordeaux. The old charterhouses have given way to the subdivisions and the commune has only one traffic light. It is an urban feature remarkable enough to be quoted. The city develops into different districts, each preserving its charm. As for history, Cestas seems to be a territory occupied for many centuries. The bronze axes found beneath an oak and dating from Prehistory... The medieval period tells us that the houses of knights who came to defend access by the Water Bourde to the Gironde were established there. Agriculture was the main economic activity of this small village built around its church. Cestas was also, at that time, on the road to Santiago de Compostela. The municipality continues to prosper as best it can, diversifying little by little its activities. But in 1949, the fire of the Landes forest devastated Cestas. The city rebuilds itself and returns a few years later to the front of the media scene for a terrible news. Today, the village is radiant and it is good to live in Cestas, on the right bank of the Eau Bourde.
