Cayeux-sur-Mer is a seaside resort on the Picard coast, nestled between the Baie de Somme, which is part of the closed circle of the 20 most beautiful bays of the world, the Marais du Hâble d'Ault, where numerous migratory birds and the green countryside come.
Cayeux-sur-Mer was awarded the Blue Flag label. Created by the French Office of the Foundation for Environmental Education in Europe in 1985, the Pavillon Bleu values each year the municipalities and the marinas that permanently carry out a policy of sustainable tourism development.
The history of Cayeux-sur-Mer is intimately linked to the world of the sea as fishing and the pickup of pebbles for several centuries ensured the meals and incomes of the Cayolais. However, since the 19th century, the tourist economy has grown significantly, thanks in particular to the popularity of sea bathing and the appearance of paid holidays. From then on, Cayeux-sur-Mer has a casino and the villas "Belle Epoque" have come to furnish the hamlets of La Mollière and Brighton.
Nowadays, the beach of Cayeux-sur-Mer is always lined with its boardwalk which allows the rides in all seasons as well as a multitude of beach cabins very appreciated by the visitors.
The gastronomy of the resort is mainly based on the products of the sea: indeed several restaurateurs offer the traditional mussels-fries (mussels of bouchots raised in the Bay of Somme), as well as sea sauerkraut decorated with salicornes (sea pickle). In addition, several dishes available at Cayeux-sur-Mer are typical of Picardie Maritime: the Leek Tart, the Potato Pate as well as the Battu Cake, which is the traditional dessert for family or festive meals. Finally, the flan with or without prunes (known as Tarte à la Badrée) is the typical dessert Cayolais.
