The Clock Tower is located in the town of Castellane, in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department.
Sometimes called locally "Porte de Saint-Michel", it was built in the 12th and 14th centuries when the ramparts of the city were erected. It marked the northwest entrance to the city, opening onto the main access road to Castellane.
In the 18th century, the tower was transformed into a belfry and fitted with a campanile.
Its interior elevation is now walled, but its exteriors are similar to other fortified towers preserved in the commune, with coarse masonry at the base, chains of ashlar angles and stones with bosses at the upper level. On the other hand, the crenellated top with battlements disappeared when the campanile was installed, itself formed of metal bulbs and seated on a square base.
25 meters high, the tower which allows the passage of rue Saint-Victor via a pierced and vaulted passage on the ground floor is protected as historical monuments but is not open to the public.
